How to Deal When You Don’t Meet Your Goals

You give up! That’s what you do… it was probably a goal you had no business having in the first place! How many of us have told ourselves this lie or some version of it? ***raises hand*** How many of us have actually given up on our goals? ***raises both hands***

Sometimes when we set goals it seems like all of sudden the whole world is against us. It feels like everything that can get in the way does. This can be really discouraging and make us question why we even have that goal to begin with and the best course of action is to abandon ship.

I know I have abandoned many a ship. I’ve cried and shook my proverbial “Why me?!” fists in the air. I just wanted to achieve my goals but it seemed the universe had other plans for me; plans that ended in failure and defeat. Womp. Womp.

THEN I had my “A-HA” moment in the form of a “get-yo-life-together” reality check. The reality is that there will ALWAYS be something (and in some cases someone) that seem to have no other function; no other purpose in life other than to work in direct opposition of what you’ve set out to do. That is the opposition’s job… to be the OPPOSITION! Haters gonna hate… am I right?! Now it’s our turn to do our job and keep our eyes on the target until we reach it but best believe there will lots of missteps along the way!

So how do you deal when you don’t meet your goals?

Try again! Like the saying goes… failure is not falling down but refusing to get up.

Learn from your mistakes! Again with the sayings (but it is oh so true)… don’t keep doing the same things expecting different results. Go back to the drawing board and figure out what didn’t work and do something different.

Break it down! Set smaller, actionable goals that will ultimately help you achieve your “big picture” goal.

Keep it real! Be honest with yourself about your strengths and weaknesses. Acknowledge what you did well and figure out what you can do better and do it.

Lastly, TRY AGAIN! Did I say that already? Well, it’s worth repeating. Don’t. Give. Up. Your future self will thank you for it!!!
