This is the first of many posts in my mission to live a more simple, less materialistic life – aka get rid of all the STUFF in my life that is unnecessarily taking up space. The first to go: my make-up.
I hate feeling like I HAVE to wear makeup in order to feel attractive. It is merely a means to an end; that end being covering up my imperfect skin so that I could feel prettier than I actually felt inside. I am on the road to recovery from years of self-inflicted mental abuse and low self-esteem Hiding behind makeup is doing a disservice to my efforts of learning to love and accept myself in the package that I come in, acne prone uneven skin and all. Is it a drastic approach? Maybe, but it is the right approach for me. It is possible some day down the line I will have a purpose to reintroduce makeup back into my life but for the foreseeable future it is a thing of the past!
To be clear, I am not against wearing makeup nor am I saying that everyone who does is simply covering up some sort of insecurity. Quite frankly, I don’t care if you wear makeup or not because it’s none of my business. The takeaway here is to stay true to yourself whatever that means. As I like to say: Do you boo because I’m doing me… I just happen to be doing it makeup-less from now on!
